What they are looking for
MadKap Productions and Ovation Musical Theatre are mounting a staged reading of The Fountain, a new musical set in the Taft era, to raise backing for full productions in Chicago and New York. They need two performers: an older man, large in stature, to play President Taft, singing from C to F, and a tenor ages 45 to 60 to play Francis Millet. This is a non-Equity project. It is unpaid. Send a video by email, and the producers will invite selected candidates to an in-person audition, currently set for November 10 at 7 p.m. in the back space of the Rotofugi toy store. Apply through the original listing.
How to approach it
For the video, pick a period piece or a classic Broadway song that clearly shows the range they list, C to F for Taft. Add a few seconds speaking to camera so they get a sense of your presence. Since this is a backers' reading, it is worth asking whether the cast would carry over to a future production. Send the video even if November 10 does not work for you; the listing says so.
It takes you to the original listing from MadKap Productions: you apply there. Never pay to audition.
