What they are looking for
Yorktown Stage is looking for an experienced ballet dancer, ages 19 to 30, to play the Snow King in The Nutcracker for Kids, its annual one-hour narrated version of The Nutcracker danced by its students. The role partners the Snow Queen and calls for solid partnering skills, including overhead lifts and finger turns. You will also help encourage the students as they grow as dancers. Rehearsals start November 14, tech week runs December 15 to 18 and performances are December 19 and 20. It is paid: a one-time fee of $1,000, and the job is non-union. Email a headshot, resume and dance reel by November 9. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Partnering is what Yorktown Stage will watch most closely, so lead your reel with a partnered duet that includes lifts and finger turns, even if it is a short clip. Add a photo in a ballet position along with your headshot. Since you will be dancing with students, mention in your email if you have taught or worked with kids. Rehearsals fall on Saturdays and tech week runs on weekday afternoons, so make sure you can get to Yorktown Heights.
