What they are looking for
Yangtze Repertory Theatre of America is holding an Equity Principal Audition for Tiger Beat, a play with music by Kaela Mei-Shing Garvin about a girl group rising to pop fame in 2003. Roles include three band members and a teen pop idol, all 18 and over to play 18 and all singing; an Asian American sister and manager in her 30s or 40s; and a record executive in his 50s or 60s. The audition is November 17 at the Equity Audition Center in New York. Bring a contemporary dramatic monologue under 2 minutes plus a headshot and resume stapled together. It is paid, on an LOA-NYC contract at a $774 weekly minimum. Rehearsals begin February 16, 2027. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Pick a contemporary dramatic monologue about a young person fighting for their place, which fits a story about pop fame and identity. Time it carefully: the cap is 2 minutes, so aim well under. For the 18-year-old roles, having an early 2000s pop song ready is a smart backup in case they ask you to sing. Bring your Equity card and check that you are free from mid-February through late April 2027 before you go.
