What they are looking for
The national tour of The Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, is seeing Equity chorus singers of all genders for possible future replacements. This Equity Chorus Call runs Wednesday, November 18, at Pearl Studios in New York, with a morning session starting at 10 a.m. and an afternoon session starting at 2:30 p.m. It is paid, on a Touring Agreement with a $2,599 weekly minimum. Prepare 16 to 32 bars of legit musical theater repertoire, with no pop or rock, and bring your book in case they ask for a second song; an accompanist is provided. Bring a current headshot and resume stapled together. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Pick a legit musical theater song that shows your upper range with solid support, something in the Rodgers and Hammerstein or operetta vein, since that matches this score. Mark your 16 and 32 bar cuts clearly for the accompanist. Keep a contrasting, more lyrical second song in your book. Get to Pearl Studios early with your Equity card, and be sure you could join a touring company if called.
