What they are looking for
Flamboyan Theatre is casting Pitiyanki, a new Boricua play by Jon Marcantoni about internalized racism, class and colonization among diaspora Puerto Ricans at a cafe in Ybor City. Roles: Uxbal, Puerto Rican, 28, an Army veteran; Nora, Afro-Puerto Rican, 22, a student and barista; Amani, Puerto Rican, 50, the cafe owner; Marcel, Afro-Puerto Rican, 21, an activist; Zahi, Afro-Puerto Rican and Dominican, 22; and Officer Lopez, Puerto Rican, 25. Actors only need to pass for each age. It is non-union, and the listing does not mention pay. The open call is November 15, 2 to 5 p.m., at AMDA Studios in Manhattan; bring a headshot, resume and a dramatic monologue of 90 seconds or less. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Pick a dramatic monologue by a Latino or Caribbean writer that runs under 90 seconds: the play is about Boricua identity, and that is the tone they want. If you are bilingual, let it show with a line or two in Spanglish. Follow Flamboyan Theatre on Instagram, since that is where they will post the room number at AMDA. Make sure you can do the full run, from late November to the end of January.
