What they are looking for
Disney Theatrical Productions is holding an Equity Principal Audition in New York for the Broadway and national touring companies of The Lion King. Nearly every principal is open: Scar, Mufasa, Rafiki, adult Simba and Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, Zazu and the hyenas, from late teens to mid 40s, plus Young Simba and Young Nala, ages 9 to 12 and under 58 inches. It runs November 18 at Pearl Studios. It is paid: a $2,799 weekly minimum on Broadway and $2,599 on tour. Bring a short R&B or rock song, sheet music and a stapled headshot and resume, and skip songs from the show. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Pick an R&B or rock song that shows your range and leave the show's own score at home, since the listing rules it out. If you are going for Timon, Pumbaa or Zazu, choose a character number and rehearse the comedy. For the hyenas, Timon and Zazu, mention any puppetry experience. Bring your Equity card, and check the height limit or vocal range your role requires before you head to Pearl Studios.
