What they are looking for
Spotlight Repertory Theatre is casting Girl From the North Country, with music and lyrics by Bob Dylan and a book by Conor McPherson, for performances February 19 to 28, 2027, at the Staten Island Playhouse. They want actor-singers with strong musicianship for Mr. and Mrs. Burke, Elias, Joe Scott, Reverend Marlowe, Mr. Perry, Mrs. Neilsen and a featured ensemble of all ages. It is paid, $300 to $500 per engagement plus a $300 stipend, and open to Equity and non-Equity performers. Rehearsals start January 4 on four weeknight evenings. Bring two short song cuts in a folk, country, gospel or blues style, or email a headshot, resume and video by October 28. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Pick roots songs, folk, country, gospel or blues, that you can sing honestly rather than show off with: the show uses Dylan to tell the stories of people hit hard by the Depression. If you cannot make the open call, record a simple video of yourself singing and send it before Wednesday the 28th at 11 p.m. Make sure you can rehearse Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting in January.
