What they are looking for
Ways and Means Theatre is holding an Equity Principal Audition in Chicago for The Book Club Play, Karen Zacarías's comedy about a book club, directed by Leanna Gianoutsos Oliveira. Roles include Alex, any gender and any ethnicity, in their 30s to 40s, a literature professor who joins the club and upends its rules. The audition is November 16, noon to 8 p.m., at the Fine Arts Building, and video submissions are accepted through November 18. Rehearsals start January 5 and the show runs January 29 to February 13, 2027. It is an Equity call. The listing does not mention pay, since the CAT contract is still being negotiated. Local actors are preferred. Prepare two contrasting monologues, one comic and one dramatic, and bring a headshot and resume. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Read Zacarías's play before you choose monologues; it is a character comedy about people exposed in front of a camera, so your comic piece should be verbal and quick. Both pieces together must stay under three minutes, so time them. If you cannot make it on the 16th, video is accepted through the 18th. They prefer Chicago locals, so make your local address clear on your resume.
