What they are looking for
Cleveland's Great Lakes Theater Festival is holding auditions in Chicago for the second half of its 2026-27 season, which it shares with Idaho Shakespeare Festival and Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. It is seeking Equity actors as understudies only for The Comedy of Errors, Les Misérables and The Importance of Being Earnest, with rehearsals starting January 12 and performances running through May 2027. It is paid: a LORT contract with a $1,213 weekly minimum. The EPA is December 10 at the Equity member center in Chicago: bring two brief monologues (Shakespeare and contemporary, or two Shakespeare) or one monologue and a short song with sheet music in your key, plus a stapled headshot and resume. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Since these are understudy tracks across three very different shows, choose material that covers several: a Shakespeare piece with comic timing and, if you sing, a Les Misérables cut. The accompanist will not transpose, so bring sheet music clearly marked in your key. Check that your schedule can handle rehearsals from January to May in Cleveland, and ask whether understudies travel to Idaho or Lake Tahoe.
