What they are looking for
Linda is a 50-minute, one-act horror comedy that will be presented as a staged reading at a festival in New York City. Linda hosts a brunch for her book club and hires Tatiana's family catering company, but the guests never arrive. Casting Linda, a woman in her 50s or 60s of any ethnicity, warm and full of secrets, and Tatiana, a Mexican-American woman from her late 20s to early 40s, hardworking and strong willed. There is one rehearsal in New York, date to be set, plus a two-hour tech rehearsal and the performance on December 13. It is non-union and requires no memorization. It is paid: $200. Send a headshot and resume. The listing does not give a closing date. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
The listing compares the play to Misery, so it is worth watching the film to catch that mix of kindness and menace. In a reading, your voice does most of the work: if you have a clip where you shift from sweet to unsettling, add the link, even though it is optional. Tatiana seems meek and then fights back, and that turn is what you want to show. Confirm you are free for all of December 13.
