Quick answer: acting classes Miami offers include improv in English and Spanish at Just The Funny, on-camera work at Miami Acting Studio and Take One, and a stage conservatory at Actors’ Playhouse. SAH Conservatory in Doral publishes its site in Spanish. Each school below links to its official page, so you can check the current term, the language of instruction and the age range before you sign up.
Miami casts in two languages. Telemundo’s studios are here, and local casting offices also work in English on commercials, series and film. Our guide to auditions in Miami explains that market. This guide looks at the training side. It matters because the right class depends on which language you want to work in, so decide that first. Our note on bilingual actors explains why two languages help. A Spanish-language improv class can build confidence for Spanish-language work. An English-language camera class, however, can prepare you for commercials and series. Many Miami actors take both kinds, and you can mix schools from this list instead of picking one.
We list nine places that show classes on their own official sites. We left out studios that only appear in third-party directories, and we do not rank anyone. Schedules change every term, so use each entry as a starting point. If you need a method for judging any school, read our guide to choosing acting classes first.
What to look for in acting classes in Miami
First, ask three questions. Which language do you want to train in? Do you want camera or stage? And how far are you willing to drive?
The third question is bigger than it sounds. For example, the schools below sit in Coral Way, Coral Gables, Doral, Hialeah, South Miami and northeast Miami-Dade. Also, a class that looks close on a map can still mean a long drive at rush hour. Pick a place you can reach on a weekday evening, because most adult classes meet then.
Acting classes in Miami in Spanish
Part of Miami’s audience wants to train in Spanish, or in both languages. The official sites are less clear about this than you might expect. So here is exactly what each one says.
Just The Funny
Just The Funny Theater & Training Center is at 3119 Coral Way, 2nd Floor, Miami 33145. Its class page lists a seven-week improv course taught in Spanish called ¡Impro! en Español (Improvisación 1). The page says you need no prior experience. All classes are in person.
The English-language improv course, Improv 1 Fundamentals, is a six-week introduction that also needs no experience. Beyond those, the page lists Sketch Comedy, Stand-Up Comedy and performance-level classes such as Musical Improv, Shakespeare Improv and Harold Workshop. Each session ends with a student performance on the theater’s stage. The page title says adults and teens but gives no age rule, so ask before you enroll a teen. See the Just The Funny classes page.
SAH Conservatory of Dramatic Arts
SAH is at 2186 NW 87th Ave in Doral. The school presents itself in Spanish, and its name on the site is Sociedad Actoral Hispanoamericana. However, the pages we read do not say whether classes are taught in Spanish, English or both. Ask the school before you enroll.
The programs are clear. First, SAH Kids is for ages 5 to 13, SAH Teens for ages 14 to 17, and the adult program is for ages 18 and up. The site describes in-person training in acting, musical theater and on-camera work. It also lists summer camp and private classes as interests on its contact form. Start on the SAH Conservatory site.
Acting classes in Miami for the camera
Miami’s screen work includes Spanish-language series and English-language commercials, so camera training is worth a look. These schools put the lens in the room.
Miami Acting Studio
Miami Acting Studio teaches acting for film. The site says students must be at least 18, so this is an adult option. It also says that each class films movie scenes, and that you build a reel from them. A free trial class is available.
Also, the page gives no street address and does not state the language of instruction, so confirm both. Check the Miami Acting Studio site.
Take One Acting Studio
Take One is at 7340 SW 48th St, Suite 103, in southwest Miami. Its site groups classes into Kids and Teens, Adults, and VO and Dubbing for voice work. A Try Out One Time Pass lets you test a class first.
The page does not say whether classes are in person or online, and it does not name a language. Because of the address, in-person classes are likely. Still, ask to be sure. Visit the Take One site. If voice work interests you, our guide to voice acting classes goes deeper.
Tcherkin Studio
Tcherkin Studio teaches the Chubbuck Technique. Its programs cover film, television and theatre for adults and for teens ages 13 to 18. The site also lists private coaching, workshops, a repertory company and creative performance labs. The studio is at SeHi Art Haus, 1399 SE 9th Ave, Suite 5, in Hialeah, and it describes itself as serving Miami and nearby areas. See the Tcherkin Studio site.
Little Theatre School
Little Theatre School serves students from age four to adult at 19066 NE 29th Ave, Miami 33180. It teaches on-camera acting, which prepares students for auditions and interviews for commercials, documentaries and films. It also teaches stage acting on its own stage. Adult classes cover acting, TV commercials and public speaking. The adult classes page has the details.
Acting classes in Miami at theaters and conservatories
Theater training gives you voice, movement and stage habits that carry over to the camera. For example, two conservatories list classes today.
Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre
Actors’ Playhouse runs a conservatory at 280 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables for stage, musical theatre and film. Adults 18 and over can take Adult Acting Foundations or the Actors’ Lab on weekday evenings. Kids and teens meet on Saturday mornings.
The youth list is long. First, Let’s Make Believe is for ages 5 to 7, and Just Act is for ages 7 to 9. Drama Detectives is for ages 9 to 13, and Lights, Camera, Action!, a film acting class, is for ages 10 to 15. Then musical theatre classes run up to age 18. Open the Actors’ Playhouse classes page.
Area Stage Conservatory
Area Stage’s conservatory teaches acting, singing and dancing in group classes, private lessons and productions. The site says it serves students of all ages and abilities. It also mentions audition prep for high school and college programs.
One warning matters here. First, the company’s site lists The Shops at Sunset Place, 5701 Sunset Drive, in South Miami, and says it plans to move in January without naming the new place. So confirm the address before you drive. The Area Stage Conservatory site will show the update.
Acting classes in Miami at Miami Dade College
Miami Dade College lists non-credit theatre courses in its continuing education catalog. Acting Level 1 meets in person at the Wolfson Campus downtown and is taught in English. Its description covers the fundamentals of stage performance, voice and movement.
Also, the same page lists Acting Group @MDC at the Kendall Campus, an Introduction to Improv course and a Voice Over course at Wolfson. It gives no age rules. The Kendall theater department also describes instruction in acting, movement and voice. See the MDC theatre course list.
Acting classes in Miami for kids and teens
Parents have several choices. For example, Actors’ Playhouse covers ages 5 to 18 with Saturday classes. SAH offers separate Kids and Teens tracks, and Little Theatre School starts at age four. Tcherkin Studio takes teens ages 13 to 18, and Take One has a Kids and Teens group.
Before you enroll a child, ask a few direct questions:
- How many adults are in the room for each group of students?
- Does the class end with a showcase, a taped scene or nothing at all?
- Can a parent watch a session, or at least read the schedule ahead of time?
Our guides to acting for teenagers and auditions for kids and teens cover safety and fake offers in more detail.
Online acting classes for Miami actors
None of the official pages we read describe a full online acting course for Miami adults. Some schools may offer sessions online, so ask. Instead, our guide to online acting classes shows how to judge a remote course, and our note on bilingual actors explains why two languages help.
How to choose between acting classes in Miami
Ask each school what the last class produces. A reel scene, a showcase and a stage run prepare you for different jobs. Then ask whether you can try a class. Miami Acting Studio and Take One both advertise a trial, and Just The Funny’s improv levels build one on another.
Also, ask who teaches, in what language, and how many students share the room. A small group gives you more time on your feet, while a larger one gives you more scene partners. Neither is better. The right size depends on whether you want feedback on every take or practice working with different people. If you are unsure how much training you need, our note on whether you need acting school can help.
After the class: auditions and next steps
Once you finish a term, put the work to use. First, update your acting resume and practice a self-tape. Then read about Telemundo and Univision auditions and browse open calls on our castings page and the United States castings page.
For other cities and formats, compare acting classes near me and our acting schools guide. For union questions later on, start at SAG-AFTRA.
