What they are looking for
Pemberley Productions is seeking Equity understudies for The History of Paper, a Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Dundee Rep musical that tells a love story through postcards, receipts and shopping lists. The leads, He and She, are played by Alan Cumming and Shirley Henderson, and the understudies should be in their mid-40s to 60 with a native or convincing Scottish accent. The EPA is Thursday, November 19 at Ripley-Grier Studios: bring two contrasting storytelling songs, sung in a Scottish accent, plus a stapled headshot and resume. Rehearsals run January 18 to February 12, 2027, and performances continue through May 16. It is paid: an Off Broadway contract at a $1,496 weekly minimum. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Choose storytelling songs rather than a big Broadway sound, as the listing asks, and rehearse them in a Scottish accent until it feels natural. If the accent is not your own, practice with recordings from a single city, Glasgow or Edinburgh, so it stays consistent. He is awkward and romantic and She is independent and sharp, so bring material that shows both comedy and loss. Confirm you can be in New York from January to mid-May.
