What they are looking for
MJ The Musical, running at Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre, is holding an Equity chorus call for ensemble singers who move, for possible replacements. They want fantastic singers in their 20s to 40s of all ethnicities and genders with great pop voices to cover various ensemble roles. The show is written by Lynn Nottage, directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, with casting by The Telsey Office. The ECC is Monday, November 23 at Pearl Studios, with sessions at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Prepare 16 bars of a pop song in the style of the show, bring sheet music for the accompanist, and bring a stapled photo and resume. It is paid: a Production contract at a $2,799 weekly minimum. Apply through the original listing.
Castina's tip
Pick 16 bars of a groove-driven pop song in a 1970s to 1990s style that shows your voice without sounding like a Michael Jackson impression. Mark your sheet music clearly with the cut, tempo and repeats, since the accompanist will sight-read it. They want singers who move, so dress comfortably in case they add a short movement combination. Bring your photo and resume already stapled.
