Acting Schools in Peru: Degrees, Workshops and Classes in Lima and Beyond

Casting and Acting Editorial Team 8 min read Updated

In this article

Quick answer: acting schools in Peru are mostly in Lima. The public route is the UNAE (formerly ENSAD, Peru’s national drama school), and two universities, PUCP and UPC, offer theater degrees. Private options include Plaza Formación and the Club de Teatro de Lima, plus short workshops. Outside the capital, Arequipa and Trujillo each have one verified option.

Training in Peru comes in three layers, and each suits a different goal. There are degree programs with entrance exams, private schools that run multi-year acting programs, and workshops you can join for a season. Most of the English-language web covers only the first layer, if it covers Peru at all.

Everything below comes from each school’s official site, checked in November 2026. These are options to consider, not a ranking. Programs are taught in Spanish unless noted. Dates change every year, so confirm them on the linked pages.

Public and university acting schools in Peru

UNAE, formerly ENSAD

The Universidad Nacional de Arte Escénico (UNAE) was created by Law 32074 on the base of the ENSAD, the Escuela Nacional Superior de Arte Dramático Guillermo Ugarte Chamorro. It is public and based in Lima, with campuses in the city center and in Miraflores. Its theater degree has an acting track, and it also offers stage design and arts education.

Admission has three phases, for example: an artistic aptitude test that eliminates candidates, a writing and critical judgment test, and a psychological evaluation. Resolution 013-2026 set 100 openings for 2026, 50 of them in acting. The 2026 process is over and we have not seen a 2027 date yet, so watch the admissions page.

PUCP, theater degree

The Faculty of Performing Arts of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) is in San Miguel, a Lima district. Its theater degree includes acting courses and leads to a bachelor’s and a licenciatura. To get in you need two things: an academic evaluation (minimum 450 points) and an artistic evaluation in theater.

The artistic test has two phases. First you perform texts. Then you do physical and vocal training with a music test. For 2027-1 admission, the second call is listed for February 17 and 18, 2027, on the theater artistic evaluation page. The degree page has the curriculum.

UPC, Performing Arts

The Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), a private university, teaches Artes Escénicas at its San Miguel campus. It runs ten semesters over five years, in person or in a hybrid format, and then ends with a bachelor’s in performing arts. There are five concentrations, including Actor Directing and Musical Theater.

Keep in mind that none is called plain acting. If you want to perform, the closest are Musical Theater and Actor Directing. The program page shows open enrollment.

Private acting schools in Peru, in Lima

Plaza Formación, Teatro La Plaza

This is the actor training program of Teatro La Plaza, a theater in Larcomar, Miraflores. It is for young people and adults over 18, with no prior experience required. You get in through an in-person audition, so prepare something. The program has four modules and trains acting, voice and body movement.

The page contradicts itself on length, saying 16 months in one place and 18 in another. Ask which one applies before you plan your year, because it changes your calendar. Also, students can join readings, dress rehearsals and openings at the theater, and get 50% off tickets. See Plaza Formación for details.

Club de Teatro de Lima

Reynaldo D’Amore founded the club in 1953, and it works on Avenida 28 de Julio 183, in Miraflores. Its acting program has three in-person levels. The first focuses on disinhibition and improvisation. Then comes text analysis, with techniques such as Stanislavski’s physical actions. Last, physical theater, which ends with a play the cast creates.

It also offers single courses in theater, improv and public speaking. The program page, updated in July 2026, lists classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, morning or evening. Browse the acting program and the courses.

Acting workshops in Lima

Searches in Peru lean toward “talleres de actuación” (acting workshops), so this is where most beginners start. A workshop lasts a few weeks, runs by season and rarely asks for experience, so it is a low-risk first step.

Los Productores

This company teaches acting, musical theater and theater games, based in Barranco with showcases also at Teatro La Plaza. Groups include children from age 3, teenagers from 13 to 17 and adults from 18. Its site says you do not need to be an actor, so beginners fit in. The fall 2026 list included Acting for Non-Actors and Character Building.

Each workshop ends with a showcase and a certificate of participation. However, enrollment opens by season: fall from March, winter from mid-June, spring in late August or early September, and summer from mid-November. Specialized workshops may ask for an acting resume and a video of up to two minutes. See the 2026 workshops.

La Vaca Multicolor

Located in Lince, at Avenida Canevaro 116, it also builds a path of levels for adults. Acting from Scratch is for people who have never acted. Next, Antagonists and Villains works on conflict and character. The top level is a staging of Shakespeare texts.

It also runs Acting Fast, an on-camera intensive where each participant leaves with an edited scene, and ongoing psychophysical training. The monologue-on-camera workshop is online. Details are on its acting workshops page.

MALI Educación

The Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI) offers a theater and acting workshop for children, teens and adults. Its page announces a start date of November 3, 2026, with a sign-up button, but it does not say the format or length. Ask before you enroll, because the page leaves gaps. See the workshop page.

Acting schools in Peru outside Lima

Conservatorio de Artes Escénicas, Universidad La Salle (Arequipa)

It describes itself as the only performing arts conservatory in southern Peru, and the program has run since 2016. It is a one-year, three-cycle program instead of a bachelor’s degree, taught in person on weeknights. Applicants must be over 18, and they first pass a talent test and an interview.

For example, the curriculum covers acting methods, body and voice, theater history, acting for camera and a final staging. You earn a diploma and a certificate from the university. The brochure lists a start on August 31, 2026 and an end on June 11, 2027. Read the program brochure.

ESADT, Trujillo

The Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Trujillo Virgilio Rodríguez Nache is public and offers a professional artist degree in theater acting. It sits on Jirón Independencia 572, in the historic center, so applying means a trip to Trujillo. Also, applications are in person, with an ID, a secondary school certificate, a health certificate and a psychological evaluation, among other papers.

Its admissions page links the 2026 prospectus and lists registration until March 24 and exams on March 25 and 26. Confirm the current calendar with the school on its admissions page.

Acting schools in Peru for kids and teens

Three verified options serve minors, and all are in Lima. Los Productores has groups from age 3 and a teen group for ages 13 to 17. The Club de Teatro de Lima splits by age: 6 to 9, 10 to 15 and 16 and up. MALI also includes children and teens in its theater workshop. Degree programs and audition-based schools require adulthood.

Online acting classes in Peru

Options are scarce. For example, among the schools we checked, only La Vaca Multicolor has a virtual option, its monologue-on-camera workshop. Instead, we found no fully online degree or yearly program in Peru.

How to choose among acting schools in Peru

First, if you are not sure acting is for you, start with a workshop. If you want a degree, look at the universities, which require an entrance exam. For something in between, Plaza Formación, the Club de Teatro and La Salle offer serious training without a licenciatura. Our guide to choosing acting classes lists questions to ask any school, and do you need acting school? looks at whether a degree matters. For the entrance audition, have a monologue ready.
