How to Audition for Netflix: Complete Guide Updated 2026

In this article

Quick answer: in Latin America and Spain, Netflix almost never calls for actors directly: the castings are run by the production companies that film for the platform in each country. In the United States, casting directors cast the roles (Netflix set up an in-house casting department in 2021 and said it would keep working with outside casting directors) and release breakdowns to talent agents and, for some roles, to actors directly. Either way you need your materials ready (acting resume, headshots and reel), a profile on casting platforms and, once you have some experience, representation.

Can you picture yourself acting in a Netflix series or film? The first step is understanding how it builds its casts: the platform works with audiovisual production companies in each country, and those companies, with their directors and casting agencies, call for actors for each project.

That is why getting a Netflix casting depends on two things: knowing where those production companies post their calls and having your materials ready to respond fast.

How Netflix casts in the United States

In the United States the process looks different from the one in Latin America and Spain. In July 2021, Netflix announced its first in-house casting department, with directors of casting for film, unscripted and series, and said it would keep working with outside casting directors.

Roles for scripted projects in North America are announced through casting breakdowns, the descriptions of each role. Breakdown Services, the company that distributes them, says it posts over 97% of the scripted content that needs actors in North America. According to its FAQ, the casting director decides whether a breakdown goes to talent agents and managers, to actors on Actors Access, or to both. That is why a talent agent or manager who can submit you matters so much, and why a current Actors Access profile is worth having for the roles released to actors.

Be wary of any website that charges a fee to get you an audition with Netflix: the U.S. Federal Trade Commission warns that paying to get a job is always a sign of a scam. For how each site works, see our guide to casting websites for actors.

What do you need before applying for a Netflix casting?

You need three things ready and up to date: an acting resume, headshots and an acting reel. Without them, it is hard for a production company to consider your application.

Acting resume

It is your calling card as an actor: personal details, physical characteristics, training and project experience. One page, clean design, as a PDF. If you do not have one yet, our guide on how to make an acting resume has examples and a free template.

Headshots

Current photos that show how you look and what you can convey: a close-up, a full-body shot, a profile and a three-quarter shot. Neutral background, simple clothes and natural makeup.

Acting reel

A video of 1 to 3 minutes with your best scenes. If you do not have material from productions yet, you can record scenes or monologues at home. Upload it to YouTube or Google Drive so it is easy to share.

Tip: keep the three files in a Google Drive folder with a shareable link. That way, when a casting call shows up, you can reply in minutes.

How to become a Netflix actor

To work on a Netflix production you need acting training, your complete materials, some experience (even in small projects) and a presence on the channels where casting calls are posted.

For leading roles, experience is almost always a requirement. For small speaking roles, supporting parts or background work, production companies are more flexible. In every case they will ask for the same thing: ease and naturalness on camera.

Important: if you are just starting out, your path to Netflix runs first through building experience in smaller projects, such as independent theater, short films or local commercials. That path gives you the materials and the contacts that open the door to bigger productions. To take your first steps, see our complete guide to becoming an actor from scratch.

Method 1: casting platforms and websites that post Netflix castings

These platforms post open calls, including some from production companies that work with Netflix. They are the most accessible way in if you do not have representation yet: sign up on the ones for your country and turn on notifications.

General platforms for Latin America and Spain

Platform Website and reach
Casting and Acting open castings by country and type, with a free actor profile
CastingsCineTV castingscinetv.com, with castings from all of Latin America and Spain
Vibuk vibuk.com
Casting Talent castingt.com
Appolo App appoloapp.com, for Spain, Mexico and the rest of Latin America
Backstage backstage.com, international
CastingsCineTV México castingscinetvmexico.blogspot.com

A note on Backstage: it has a Spanish translation in beta, but its listings are mostly from the United States and other English-speaking countries, and you need a paid subscription to apply. If you live in Latin America or Spain, use it as a complement to the platforms in your country; if you live in the United States, it is one of the main places to look, as we explain in our guide to casting websites for actors.

Platforms by country

These local platforms also post casting calls for each country:

Method 2: follow the production companies that work with Netflix

Following the production companies that film for Netflix is one of the most effective methods and one of the least used. They are the first to know about new projects, they organize the casting and sometimes they post calls on their social media before the calls reach the platforms.

Netflix production companies in Spain

  • Bambú Producciones: made El caso Asunta (2024) and Manual para señoritas (2025) for Netflix, and in 2024 won the International Emmy for best telenovela with La Promesa. Website bambuproducciones.com, Instagram @bambuprodu and Facebook facebook.com/BambuProdu.

Netflix production companies in Mexico

In February 2025, Netflix announced a US$1 billion investment to produce in Mexico between 2025 and 2028, as reported by the Mexican business outlet Expansión. Some of the production companies and agencies that already work with the platform:

  • Mezcala Films: produced Las muertas (2025), Luis Estrada’s series based on the novel by Jorge Ibargüengoitia. Instagram @mezcalafilms.
  • Mar Abierto: produced Las hermanas Guerra (2024), created by José Ignacio Valenzuela, the creator of ¿Quién mató a Sara? (Who Killed Sara?). Instagram @marabiertofilms.
  • Big Drama: made the adaptation of Nadie nos vio partir (2025), the miniseries by Lucía and Nicolás Puenzo that Alebrije Producciones and Península Films produced. Instagram @bigdramastudio.
  • Morán Casting: a casting agency that, according to its website, did the casting for Control Z. You can send it your materials directly. Email [email protected], Instagram @morancasting and Facebook facebook.com/HazCasting.

Netflix production companies in Argentina

In April 2026, Netflix opened offices in Buenos Aires and announced new Argentine projects. Some of the production companies that work with the platform:

  • K&S Films: produced El Eternauta (The Eternaut, 2025), the series by Bruno Stagnaro starring Ricardo Darín, which already has a second season announced. Instagram @ksfilmsarg.
  • Kapow: produced Envidiosa (2024), the series created and produced by Adrián Suar and starring Griselda Siciliani. Website kapow.com.ar and Instagram @kapowproductora.
  • Underground: the production company of Sebastián Ortega and Pablo Culell. It made El Marginal and its spin-off En el barro (2025), which Netflix renewed for a third season. Instagram @undergroundproducciones.

Netflix production companies in Colombia

In July 2025, Netflix announced ten Colombian titles for 2025 and 2026, made with local production companies, according to Forbes Colombia and The Hollywood Reporter. Some of the ones that work with the platform:

  • Dynamo: producer of Cien años de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude, 2024), for which it held an open casting where anyone could apply, and of Palacio. Instagram @dynamostudios.
  • Caracol Televisión: one of the largest TV channels in Colombia. For Netflix it produces La primera vez. Website caracoltv.com.
  • TIS Productions: made Perfil falso and Medusa for Netflix. Instagram @tisproduccionestv.
  • AG Studios: produces Estado de fuga for Netflix. Instagram @agstudioscol.
  • Clover Studios: produces the docuseries about James Rodríguez for Netflix. Instagram @cloverstudios.co.
  • Púlsar Studios: produces the film about Susana y Elvira for Netflix. Instagram @pulsarstudios.
  • Estudios RCN: produced Simplemente Alicia (2025) for Netflix. Website rcntelevision.com.

Tip for Colombia: besides Netflix, the country attracts foreign shoots with the incentives of Law 1556 of 2012. And Caracol and RCN produce telenovelas, a good way to log hours on camera: see how to get cast in TV shows and telenovelas.

Method 3: sharpen your Google searches

A little-known trick is Google’s Images tab, where flyers and posts from Instagram, Facebook and blogs show up that do not always appear in regular results. Combined with searches by country and by project, it can show you casting calls that never reach the platforms.

Try searches like these (in Latin America and Spain, run them in Spanish too, for example “casting para Netflix [país] 2026”):

  • “Netflix casting call in [your country] 2026”
  • “Netflix casting actors [your city] 2026”
  • “Netflix open call for actors 2026”
  • “Netflix series casting [drama, teen, comedy]”
  • “Upcoming Netflix productions [Spain, Mexico, Argentina or Colombia] 2026”

Method 4: get representation

Many Netflix castings are closed: only the actors proposed by representation agencies reach them. If you already have verifiable experience, looking for representation is one of the most strategic steps to enter that circuit, and in the United States some breakdowns are released only to agents and managers. If you are just starting out, this step can wait, but keep it as a medium-term goal.

Tip: before approaching an agency, have your materials complete and up to date, plus a few credits to show. Agencies look for actors who are ready to work.

Method 5: register with casting agencies in your country

Casting agencies keep databases of actors that they search when a project comes in, Netflix projects included. If you register with your complete materials, they can call you in for a private casting when your profile matches what they are looking for. The agencies of each country are listed in the country guides linked below.

Careful: serious casting agencies never charge actors to join their database or to call them in for a casting. If you are asked for money to register or to audition, it is a sign of a scam: see how to spot a fake casting call.

How much does a Netflix actor earn?

It depends on the role, the country and the agreements of each place’s actors’ union, which usually set minimum rates (in the United States, SAG-AFTRA publishes the minimums of its contracts on its rate sheets). A lead role earns much more than a small speaking role, and the production’s budget, your track record and whether you have representation also matter.

Netflix castings by country

Netflix films in Spanish mostly in Mexico, Spain, Colombia and Argentina, and in each country the most direct way to hear about castings is to follow the local agencies and platforms. These are the guides for those four countries, plus the United States:

There are also guides for Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela: you can find them all in the index of guides to getting auditions.

Action plan to land a Netflix casting

  1. Prepare your materials: resume, headshots and reel in a Drive folder with a shareable link.
  2. Sign up on the general platforms: Casting and Acting, Vibuk, Appolo App and CastingsCineTV, with Backstage as a complement.
  3. Join the platforms for your country: casting.es (Spain), onlinecasting.mx (Mexico), alternativateatral.com (Argentina) and the ones for your region.
  4. Follow the production companies in your country: Bambú, Vancouver Media, Zeta, K&S Films, Dynamo, TIS and the ones that film near you.
  5. Register with local casting agencies: that is how you reach closed castings that are never posted.
  6. Look for representation once you have enough experience and materials.
  7. Sharpen your Google searches and check the Images tab.
  8. If you live in the United States, keep an Actors Access profile current and work toward a talent agent who can submit you.

The plan also works for other platforms, because many of these production companies film for several: see how to audition for HBO Max and for Amazon Prime Video.

Keep going: the next Netflix casting call could be yours.

Frequently asked questions

How do I audition for Netflix?

Prepare your materials (acting resume, headshots and reel), create your profile on casting platforms such as Casting and Acting, Vibuk or CastingsCineTV, follow the production companies that film for Netflix in your region and reply fast when a call that fits your profile appears. The castings are organized by those production companies and their casting teams.

Does Netflix hold direct castings?

Almost never in Latin America and Spain. Netflix works with production companies in each country, and those companies, with their directors and casting agencies, make the calls. Sometimes the platform spreads word of an open call, like the one for Cien años de soledad in 2022, but that casting was run by the production company, Dynamo. That is why it pays to follow the production companies and their casting agencies. In the United States, Netflix announced an in-house casting department in 2021 and said it would keep working with outside casting directors, and breakdowns are released to talent agents and managers and, depending on the casting director, to actors on Actors Access.

Can I audition for Netflix without experience?

Yes, for some roles. For leading or important supporting roles, experience is almost always a requirement; for small speaking roles, minor parts and background work, production companies are more flexible. The minimum they will ask for is some acting training and ease on camera. For background work, experience is simply not required.

Are there Netflix castings for kids and teens?

Yes, although they are less frequent. For teenage roles, many production companies look for actors over 18 who look younger, because they can shoot more hours. To avoid missing these calls, closely follow the platforms and casting agencies in your country. Disney’s teen series, on the other hand, cast many minors: we explain it in our guide on how to audition for Disney.

How much does a Netflix actor earn?

It depends on the role, the country and the agreements of each place’s actors’ union, which usually set minimum rates. A lead role earns much more than a small speaking role. The production’s budget, your track record and whether you have representation also matter: if you do, your agency negotiates the fee for you.

Which production companies work with Netflix in Spain?

Among others, Bambú Producciones (El caso Asunta, Manual para señoritas), Vancouver Media (La casa de papel, Berlín), Zeta Studios (Élite), DiagonalTV (Los herederos de la tierra), Contubernio Films (Machos alfa) and Apache Films (Paquita Salas). Netflix also chose Grupo Secuoya in 2018 as a partner for its production hub in Tres Cantos, Madrid.

Which production companies work with Netflix in Mexico?

Among others, Mezcala Films (Las muertas), Mar Abierto (Las hermanas Guerra), Alebrije Producciones and Península Films (Nadie nos vio partir, adapted by Big Drama) and the agency Morán Casting (Control Z). In February 2025, Netflix also announced a US$1 billion investment to produce in Mexico between 2025 and 2028.

Which production companies work with Netflix in Argentina?

Netflix works with, among others, K&S Films (El Eternauta, with Ricardo Darín), Kapow (Envidiosa, created and produced by Adrián Suar) and Underground, the production company of Sebastián Ortega and Pablo Culell (En el barro, a spin-off of El Marginal). In April 2026, Netflix also opened offices in Buenos Aires.

Which production companies work with Netflix in Colombia?

In July 2025, Netflix announced ten Colombian titles for 2025 and 2026. Among the production companies that work with the platform are Dynamo (Cien años de soledad, Palacio), TIS (Medusa, Perfil falso), Caracol Televisión, Estudios RCN, AG Studios, Clover Studios, Púlsar Studios and CMO (Pálpito).

When are there castings for new Netflix series?

All year round, because Netflix announces projects at different times. To hear in time, follow the casting platforms and the production companies on social media, and set up Google alerts with searches like “Netflix casting 2026” plus your country. Registering with casting agencies also adds you to their databases for closed castings that are never posted. The open calls for series that we publish at Casting and Acting are in the TV and series castings section.

How do I become an extra on a Netflix series?

The production companies that film for Netflix look for background actors for almost every shoot and post those calls on their social media, in background-work groups and with extras agencies. To do background work, you only need current photos, your physical details and availability for the shooting days: experience is not required. In the United States, background actors are cast through agencies such as Central Casting, whose support pages describe signing up as free. We tell you how to start in how to become a background actor.

Are there Netflix castings in my country?

Netflix productions in Spanish are concentrated in Mexico, Spain, Colombia and Argentina, so there are more calls there. The United States has its own casting system, described above. In other countries, such as Peru or Chile, shoots are less frequent, but when there are some, the searches for small roles and background work appear on local casting platforms and on the production companies’ social media. You can find the guide for each country in the Latin America casting directory.
