How to Get Auditions in Nicaragua

Where to study acting in Nicaragua

Theater is the great school of Nicaraguan actors: training there gives you experience and contacts. If you’re just starting out, sign up for a theater workshop: it is the first step of our guide to becoming an actor from scratch.

Escuela Nacional de Teatro “Pilar Aguirre”

A public school founded in 1981, which falls under the Instituto de las Culturas de Pueblos y Juventudes. It lasts six semesters in the regular track or three years in the Saturday track, and preferably asks for applicants 16 or older. In 2025 and 2026 its students performed El Principito (The Little Prince) at the Teatro Nacional Rubén Darío and other venues.

Sala de Teatro Justo Rufino Garay

It reopened in August 2026 under the Cinemateca Nacional, with weekly performances by university groups and companies, plus workshops in acting, theater directing, screenwriting and short films (Canal 4).

Grupos de teatro de la UNAN-Managua

The Department of Culture of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua (UNAN-Managua) has theater, dance and puppetry workshops and groups open to students from any major.

Institutions, theater and festivals

Since 2022 the Cinemateca Nacional has authorized shoots and kept a mandatory registry of audiovisual people and companies (Voice of America).

Cinemateca Nacional

It organizes the Festival Internacional de Cine en Nicaragua (FICN, Nicaragua International Film Festival), whose 11th edition runs from October 29 to 31, 2026, and it has an audiovisual training center, the CNEAC.

Teatro de Títeres Guachipilín

A puppet company with a long track record, which in 2026 received the award for creativity from WIPO (the World Intellectual Property Organization).

Model casting

If besides acting you are interested in modeling, there is a national casting every year.

Nicaragua Diseña

A fashion platform that holds a free national casting for runway models, for people ages 16 to 30. In 2026 registration was online in July and August, with an in-person casting in Managua.

Websites and social accounts that post castings in Nicaragua

Since few calls are published in the country, it also pays to look at the region:

• Castings on Casting and Acting: castings and auditions posted on the site, with a country filter.
• How to Get Auditions in Costa Rica: the guide for the neighboring country, with more agencies and shoots.
• How to Get Auditions in Honduras: another market in the region that works through production companies, theater and festivals.

How to prepare for a casting in Nicaragua

When a call comes up, the winner is whoever answers fast and with complete audition materials. Have this ready before you write to any agency:

• Acting resume on one page, with your details, measurements, training and experience. Guide: how to make an acting resume.
• Headshots with current photos of your face, profile and full body. You can put them together at home: how to take headshots at home.
• Reel with your best scenes or, if you don’t have any work yet, a one-minute intro video. Guide: how to make an acting reel.
• Self-tape for remote castings: front lighting, a plain background and good audio. More details in what is a self-tape.

Watch out for fake castings

Reputable agencies and production companies in Nicaragua charge the people who hire them, not the actors: joining their database or going to a casting has to be free. Be wary if they ask you for money, intimate photos or to go alone, especially if you’re a minor. We explain how to recognize them in how to spot a fake casting call.

Mosaico Audiovisual, for example, states in its terms that it never charges for registration, tests, photos or headshot packages, and that talent is paid only with a written contract.

Frequently asked questions

Are there casting agencies in Nicaragua?

There are hardly any agencies with verifiable public activity. Opportunities come from production companies with talent databases, such as Mosaico Audiovisual and 8bit Media, from theater and from the activities of the Cinemateca Nacional.

How do I register in a talent database in Nicaragua?

At Mosaico Audiovisual you fill out an online form with your details, a headshot, a full-body photo and, if you want, a 30-second intro video; then they invite you to a camera test.

Where can I study acting in Nicaragua?

At the Escuela Nacional de Teatro Pilar Aguirre (public, with six semesters or three years in the Saturday track), in the workshops of the Sala de Teatro Justo Rufino Garay and in the theater groups of UNAN-Managua.

What is the Cinemateca’s audiovisual registry?

Since a 2022 reform, the Cinemateca Nacional authorizes shoots in the country and keeps a mandatory registry of the people and companies that work in audiovisual, whether national or foreign.

Do I have to pay to apply to a casting in Nicaragua?

Applying to a casting has to be free, and talent is paid with a contract. If they ask you for money to register, for tests or for a headshot package, be wary. Paying for a membership on a casting website is a different matter: it is only worth it if it posts notices for your area.

List reviewed in October 2026. Contacts change: if an agency has stopped operating or you know one that is missing, let us know. For other countries, see the Latin America Casting Directory.
