Quick answer: in Costa Rica the most active casting calls come from agencies such as Tremendo Casting, Casting DeleFOCO, INTI Casting and Casting Studio, which post on Instagram and Facebook. Follow @solocasting.cr, make the most of the festivals (CRFIC, shnit), train at the Taller Nacional de Teatro (National Theater Workshop) or the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and have your acting resume, headshots and reel ready.
Costa Rica attracts international shoots: since 2021, foreign productions that spend at least US$500,000 in the country recover up to 90% of the value-added tax, or VAT (Costa Rica Film Commission). After Earth (Columbia Pictures) and Celebrity Bear Hunt (Netflix) were shot there, for example.
Local film is growing too: the Fondo El Fauno (El Fauno Fund) of the Centro de Cine has supported 117 projects since 2015 (Centro de Cine), and in 2026 the country chose Si no ardemos, cómo iluminar la noche, by Kim Torres, to represent it at the Oscars (Delfino).

How to prepare for a casting in Costa Rica
When a call comes up, the winner is whoever answers fast and with complete audition materials. Have this ready before you write to any agency:
- Acting resume on one page, with your details, measurements, training and experience. Guide: how to make an acting resume.
- Headshots with current photos of your face, profile and full body. You can put them together at home: how to take headshots at home.
- Reel with your best scenes or, if you don’t have any work yet, a one-minute intro video. Guide: how to make an acting reel.
- Self-tape for remote castings: front lighting, a plain background and good audio. More details in what is a self-tape.
Watch out for fake castings
Reputable agencies and production companies in Costa Rica charge the people who hire them, not the actors: joining their database or going to a casting has to be free. Be wary if they ask you for money, intimate photos or to go alone, especially if you’re a minor. We explain how to recognize them in how to spot a fake casting call.
Some agencies charge separately for services such as a photo session, an in-person appointment or a premium plan. That is fine as long as they are optional and the price is clear; if paying is the condition for being considered, or they pressure you to pay on the spot, be wary.
Frequently asked questions
Where are castings posted in Costa Rica?
Mostly on the social accounts of the agencies (Tremendo Casting, Casting DeleFOCO, INTI Casting, Casting Studio and Casting G1) and on accounts that gather calls, such as @solocasting.cr. You can also check the castings section of Casting and Acting.
Do I have to pay to sign up with a casting agency in Costa Rica?
Joining the database should be free: DeleFOCO and InterModelo, for example, don’t charge to add you. Some agencies offer paid services separately, such as DeleFOCO’s in-person appointment or the premium plan of Casting Studio’s app: they should be optional and clearly priced.
Where can I study acting in Costa Rica?
The University of Costa Rica offers Theater Arts and the Universidad Nacional offers Performing Arts. The Taller Nacional de Teatro has a professional cycle with a scholarship that you enter by audition, plus open courses; private options include Casting Studio and Casa Maga.
Are international productions shot in Costa Rica?
Yes. Since 2021 there have been incentives for foreign shoots that spend at least US$500,000 in the country, and After Earth and Celebrity Bear Hunt, for example, were filmed there. The Film Commission’s catalog lists the casting agencies that work with those shoots. If streaming series interest you, we explain how to audition for Netflix, which works with production companies in each country.
Do I need experience to go to castings in Costa Rica?
For commercials and modeling, many calls accept profiles without experience. For film and theater, training helps, so it pays to build experience with short films (shnit’s 48-hour challenge is a good opportunity), workshops and plays.
