Quick answer: in the Dominican Republic, most casting calls come from casting agencies that post on Instagram, such as OK Casting, VHO Casting, Mar Casting, Vanilla, Opositivo and Casting Factory. Sign up on their websites when they have one, join the actor database of ADAC (the Dominican Association of Film Actors) and have your acting resume, headshots and reel ready: the country hosts many international shoots that hire local cast.
The Dominican Republic is one of the Caribbean’s major filming destinations. Film Law 108-10 created the Dirección General de Cine (DGCINE, the country’s film agency) and offers a tax credit of up to 25% to productions that spend more than US$500,000 in the country, and between 2011 and 2025, 422 international productions were shot there (Acento). Lantica Studios, the former Pinewood Dominican Republic, operates in Juan Dolio, where work was done on The Lost City, Nyad and Road House (Lantica Studios).
For an actor, that is a concrete opportunity: according to Lantica, to qualify for the incentive at least 25% of the crew and cast must be Dominican or residents (Lantica Studios). In 2026, for example, VHO Casting looked for local cast for Porto Rico, the film by Residente with Bad Bunny (Primera Hora).

How to prepare for a casting in the Dominican Republic
When a call comes up, the winner is whoever answers fast and with complete audition materials. Have this ready before you write to any agency:
- Acting resume on one page, with your details, measurements, training and experience. Guide: how to make an acting resume.
- Headshots with current photos of your face, profile and full body. You can put them together at home: how to take headshots at home.
- Reel with your best scenes or, if you don’t have any work yet, a one-minute intro video. Guide: how to make an acting reel.
- Self-tape for remote castings: front lighting, a plain background and good audio. More details in what is a self-tape.
Watch out for fake castings
Reputable agencies and production companies in the Dominican Republic charge the people who hire them, not the actors: joining their database or going to a casting has to be free. Be wary if they ask you for money, intimate photos or to go alone, especially if you’re a minor. We explain how to recognize them in how to spot a fake casting call.
Frequently asked questions
Where are castings posted in the Dominican Republic?
Mostly on the Instagram accounts of the agencies (OK Casting, VHO Casting, Vanilla, Mar Casting, Opositivo, Casting Factory, ACV2, Rojo, Luna and La Central) and on accounts that repost calls, such as @convocatorias_a_casting. You can also check the castings section of Casting and Acting.
How do I apply: by direct message, email or the website?
It depends on the agency. OK Casting asks you to apply through its website and not by direct message, Vanilla has an online registry and others ask for the material by email or WhatsApp in each call. Read each post carefully and send exactly what they ask for.
Do international productions hire Dominican actors?
Yes. According to Lantica Studios, to qualify for the tax incentive at least 25% of the crew and cast must be Dominican or residents, and in 2026 VHO Casting looked for local cast for Porto Rico, the film by Residente with Bad Bunny. For streaming series, see how to audition for Netflix: the platform casts through local production companies.
Where can I study acting in the Dominican Republic?
The Escuela Nacional de Arte Dramático has trained actors since 1946 (admission is by exam). The UASD offers a bachelor’s degree and a technical degree in acting. The Escuela Internacional de Arte Escénico offers acting courses for film and television.
Do I have to pay to apply to a casting in the Dominican Republic?
Reputable agencies charge the production company or the client, not the actors. If a call asks you for money to take part, or for a required headshot package with their own photographer, be wary.
